Homework In Room 7

                                                 Homework in Room 7
The aim of homework is to provide further opportunities to consolidate skills and understandings already initiated in classroom programmes.  Homework also encourages interaction between your child and other members of their family and it shouldn’t be a stressful time. We really appreciate you supporting your child through involvement.
Reading – In the front of the homework book you will find a reading log. Please record the title and the name of the book. If your child is off the reading wheel, or reading above level 23/24, they will be able to choose the book they read. This could be a library book or a book from home. For children who are on the reading wheel they will bring a book home. They are expected to practise reading from Monday to Friday. They will bring a poem home for the weekend.

Spelling – The Middle School spelling programme is based on the Essential Lists that are made up of the words we most often use in reading and writing.
Your child will be tested each week. With list 4 and above they will be tested on 14 random words from the list. When they know how to spell these words they will get the next list. Please note that when you are asking your child to spell a word from their list put it in a sentence. If they don’t know what the word means, or how to use it they won’t know that word when they are reading or writing.
 Maths

At the back of this book in the maths section. Here you will find a list of the knowledge outcomes for each maths stage. The learning intention your child is working on at home will reinforce school learning.
I will highlight 1 knowledge outcome that your child is working on in class.
When it is dated and ticked 3 times your child will be tested. When they have achieved this the next area they are working on will be highlighted.
Please note these may not be in the order they are on the sheet.
It is important to stick to 1 area at a time to save confusion and this ensures that the learning intention is properly mastered.
Please note your child can write in this book to practise.
Maths homework should take up to 10 minutes a day.
